There are many different ways that you and your Malamute can get together and have some fun. They are a working breed and love nothing more than doing just that. You will reap the benefits of getting outdoors together, seeing the countryside, keeping fit and having a happy and contented Mal. We cannot stress how important it is for our dogs that they are worked, the sparkle in their eyes and the bond it builds between you and each other is priceless. These are all growing sports.

Some ideas;

Dryland racing / Sledding / Mushing / Rig racing

This is what they were born and bred to do! There are clubs up and down the country organising weekend events, see the links page to find your nearest venues and clubs. Generally run in National Parks or Forestry it is a great opportunity to support the countryside and see some of what the UK has to offer on your doorstep. Each club has rules and regulations to follow and you will need the correct equipment and training. This subject alone could fill the website and the club websites provide lots of information and articles so I will let them steer you in the right direction. However please do not hesitate to email and ask any questions or if you are not far away from us and want to come and meet the dogs and see them train or get pointers just ask.

We have met so many wonderful friends and the sport is a real community, even the kids love making dens in the woods together and once 8 years old they can have a go at the junior races.

Scootering

Run alongside the Dryland racing and at some of the same events. Uses only 1 dog and over a shorter course, a good way to get into the sport.

Bikejoring

As with the Scooter but using a mountain bike instead.

Cani-Cross

Running with your dog. It has its own clubs and events and is starting to have classes included at some Dryland rallies.

Backpacking / Trekking

Exploring the countryside over a longer distance and wilder terrain. Either with or without holdalls for your dog to carry weight. Up the stakes an do some wild camping together.

Weight Pull

Competing to see which dogs can pull the most times their body weight using special carts and trolleys. Tailored training required and not for the unfit dog.
